Dr. I.P. OnyeonoruThe history of the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies (CEPACS), University of Ibadan started in 1994 with an international workshop on Urban Management and Urban Violence in Africa jointly sponsored by the University of Ibadan and the Institut Francais de Recherche en Afrique (IFRA), Ibadan. The workshop paved way for the establishment of a DFID/British Council academic link programme between the University of Ibadan and the Initiative on Conflict Resolution and Ethnicity (INCORE) at the Magee College, University of Ulster, Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland. The academic link, which took off in 1996, was aimed at promoting good governance and peaceful resolution of conflict.Under the agreement, a number of the Ibadan staff undertook research visits to Derry/Londonderry and other peace studies centres such as Bradford and Coventry in the UK, and reciprocated by playing hosts to their INCORE counterparts visiting Ibadan.
